Deadpool Pranks With Role-Swapping

Is the “Role-Flex” Hero Actually Coming?

If you’ve logged into Marvel Rivals these past two weeks, you might have noticed the roster looking a little… chaotic. The Merc with a Mouth is officially living up to his reputation for mischief. After being revealed at The Game Awards as a Duelist, Deadpool has spent the last few days “glitching” through the hero select screen.

As of right now, he has jumped from the Duelist category straight into the Vanguard (Tank) slot. And if the rumors are true, by the time you finish your Christmas leftovers, he’ll likely be sitting comfortably in the Strategist (Healer) section.

Is this just a festive prank by NetEase, or are we looking at the debut of the game’s first true “Flex Hero”?

The Glitch: Just a Fourth-Wall Break?

Deadpool is the only hero currently visible on the roster who is “locked” but active. Unlike other upcoming heroes who stay hidden until launch, Wade Wilson is right there, staring at you. His movement between roles feels like a classic 4th-wall break—he’s literally rewriting the game’s UI because he’s bored waiting for his January release.

However, the community is theorizing that this isn’t just a visual gag. Some suggest that Deadpool might be the first hero to allow players to select their role at the start of a match. Imagine a version of Deadpool that gains a massive health pool and “Speech Bubble” shields as a Vanguard, but swaps to dual-pistol burst damage as a Duelist.

The Rogue Precedent: The Rise of the Hybrids

We already have Rogue, who arrived in the Season 5.5 update as a Vanguard but effectively plays like a light to mid kind of hybrid. By stealing (some but not all) abilities, Rogue can output Duelist-level damage or provide Strategist-level utility while maintaining her tanky stats. Even against the heroes she can’t steal a power from, she still gets the ability buff (plus inflicts the debuff) and she can use “Absorption” strategically in these situations for refresh “Fatal Attraction” for increased mobility.

Pros and Cons: Should We Keep the Three Roles Tidy?

Pros and Cons of a Flex/Hybrid Role
  • Dynamic Filling: If your team is missing a healer, Deadpool could “fill” the gap automatically.
  • Lore Accuracy: It fits characters like Deadpool, Taskmaster, or Rogue perfectly.
  • One-Trick Friendly: Allows players to play their favorite character regardless of the role queue.
  • Balancing Nightmare: How do you nerf a hero that has three different kits without breaking all of them?
  • Role Confusion: In high-stakes Ranked play, knowing exactly what an enemy hero does at a glance is vital.
  • “The Rogue Problem”: If a hybrid is too good at everything, there’s no reason to pick a specialized hero.

The Verdict: Vanguard, Strategist, or Both?

While it would be incredibly “Deadpool” to have his own category called “Wallbreaker,” NetEase likely wants to keep the game’s competitive structure clean. The most likely outcome is that Wade will settle into one role (likely Duelist or a high-sustain Vanguard) but feature a kit that feels like he’s cheating the system.

Whether he’s tossing out healing chimichangas or tanking damage with pure “Maximum Effort” regeneration, one thing is certain: the meta is about to get a lot more annoying—in the best way possible.
